'Elegant Soiree' & 'Newsprint' DSP Scrap Page

I am LOVING this Beautiful layout that I recreated at one of Liz's Crop nights last month!!! (CLICK TO GO TO LIZ'S BLOG) I loved it so much that I though my ladies would love it just as much... So I planed a class around this fabulous shabby chic textured and layered Scrapbook page...

Crop Night Scrapping - Shabby Chic

One of the great things I LOVE about Stampin" UP! Designer Series Paper (DSP) is that one packet all goes together PERFECTLY!!! It makes the Scrapbookers task of page lay out and coordination so much easier.. Plus we have all the inks embellishments card stock etc that also coordinates with the DSP's.. what more could you ask for????

Scrapping - Shabby Chic Life
Shabby Chic Scrapping Life PageAlthough we used retired DSP we still created wonderful layouts with brilliant results. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

What I love about the BIG SHOT is that when you make your chip board letters you no longer have left overs!!! You can cut out EXACTLY the letters you will need... Yeah... So while the initial layout for the Die cut is a little 'x'ey the SAVINGS over the years will be phenomenal!!! I love to hang onto all the card board backings of the DSP packs... I also hang onto any other bit of packaging that may have chip board embellishment potential.... It's a great savings!!!!!!

Happy Crafting...

Bleaching Technique

Bleaching flowers on a Card
At KENG - Craft - Card Class last week we made this card .... It uses the Bleaching technique.... The ladies loved it because it meant that even if you do not own a lot of the matching ink pad colours you can still get a cool background look.

To create this effect yourself all you need to do is use thick liquid bleach (like Domestos) on a wet one to create a temporary bleach ink pad... ink up your stamp with the temporary bleach ink pad... then stamp onto a darker coloured card stock.... Watch the magic happen right before your eyes as the colour starts to disappear when the bleach dries... It's quite cool.. Kind of like the secret lemon writing letters I am sure most of us have done as a kid....

This technique is great for cards but I personally would not use it for a scrapbook page.. As I would fear the bleach might react with any photos you may have on the page....

The Bleach does not affect your stamps as long as you clean them off right away... Be sure when cleaning the  bleach off DO NOT use your Stamp and Scrub as it may affect the fibers... Just use another baby wipe...

Happy Crafting

Masquerade - Mask

Feather Masquerade MaskI've been commissioned to make another Mask for a Masquerade themed party.... The theme of this one is Black & White with a dash of colour.... The Mask base was chosen and I went on to decorate accordingly with black and white bits a pieces.... It's very therapeutic to do so....

It's fantastic how flowly ostrich feathers are and how romantic they look. Of course you have to have a bit of BLING to finish off the look with a beautiful Gold AB Swarovski Crystal button for the center piece in the black bow.

I hope that these lovely teenagers have a fantastic night at their brilliantly themed Party!!!!

Eye Patch - Fashion Statement #3

Palsy of 6th Nerve in the right eye looks like this..... It turns inwards causing double vision.

Looking to the side with 6th Nerve PalsyWhen I had 6th Nerve Palsy

When you try to focus on the outside.. Your eye just wont move... But hay it's a cool party trick.. It really groses some people out... I love it.. It is definitely one advantage to having this problem...

What it looks like with 6th Nerve PalsyThis is what I am seeing at the moment... It is quite annoying.. but when I cover the right eye... I can see much better.. Judgment is still a little bit weird and I am still getting used to the one eyed-ness of it all..... However all is well if I just take it slowly..... then my "disability" is no were near as noticeable to either myself or others.. I can like fool myself that there is nothing wrong....

When there is more detail and colour that I have to take in then it gets very confusing... Like yesterday Master 8 ran through a solid object... I told him he has super powers... He was stoked with that.. and then on his way back to the play ground he ran into the building I said he ran through... Hehehehe.. Little joker!!!

Sometimes it gets on top of me... And I get annoyed, frustrated and MAD!!! Yesterday was one of those days for me.... I had a very very low day... Feeling EXTREMELY sorry for myself. Feeling icky... Ugly ... and YUCK and trapped, because of having to wear eye patches which limits my social life, and eye/brain stimulation... It gets awfully tiring having just the one eye to process everything.. I find sometimes my brain will not shut off at night time and it takes me HOURS to fall asleep.... Ever since I can remember no matter what was going on in my life I have always been able to fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.... (Much to the disgust of my husband... Who has NEVER had this pleasure.....) So back to the point... Yesterday I was just down right bummed!!!

With new resolve this morning I arose with a goal in mind.. I have had a design for a new eye patch in my mind for a long time and after I prepared for this afternoons workshop I decided to get the creative juices flowing and make a LOVELY eye patch to make me feel more BEAUTIFUL!!!!! ( I recently saw "Burlesque" and LOVED LOVED LOVED the costumes... Nothing beats lace, feathers, glitter, bling, trimmings and a whole lot of Lovely feminine decorations... This movie was some of my inspiration)

Pirate Patch I created for 6th Nerve PalsyThis is what I came up with...I am so LOVING my Big Shot for making the base of the eye patches!!! It work a treat!!! Black and white is always clasic!!! I definately feel more lovely today with my new eye patch!!!

If you would like to know how to make your own please call me and we can have a class... It would be fun to get others involved in my "NEW" obsession... heheh

Punch Art at BAYSIDE Craft Classes

Paper Angels have our usual gathering at Bayside Craft Class and this year it is looking to be brilliant!!! We have a theme ever week so if you do not have something that you are working on you can turn up and still go home with something learned or made... It's FANTASTIC... Very inspirational!!!

Last week was Punch art... We made these beautiful Baby Cards (inspired by Dianna - PA's Team) and these cute little Sesame Street Characters... Liz walked us through Dianna's Baby cards... and Kim walked us through the cute Characters...

Punch Art Sesame St and baby OnesiesNext week is Bring a project you would like to share or demonstrate.... I am looking forward to learning much much more this year!!!

Oh while we were making the Sesame Street Punch art I suggested that they would be great felt eye patches for kids.... so today I pulled out my Big Shot and had to make a cookie monster one for myself.... Cool hey???

Big Shot Cookie Monster Eye Patch
Thanks again for lovely friends taking me home after Bayside craft!!! It's lovely receiving so much support at this time... Bless you all!!! Muwah xxxx

Community Craft Class

This year I've started teaching a Craft class at KENG... We make one card and have a lovely social time talking about other projects etc.. We've only had two classes so far but I can see that is is going to be one of the things I most look forward to each week!!! We have a lovely bunch of ladies that are coming at this time and they are all so creative in their own right!!! Last week we had show and tell and that was very inspirational!!! I was able to gather quite a few inspirational ideas for future classes...

The first week we created this lovely card... Which uses the wonderful Stamp n Write markers to colour in the stamp... It is simple and elegant..

Marker Stamping Technique CardThis card was what we put together last week and was inspired by Stampin Up and Liz... The design is the same as the thank you card we received last year for our demonstrations at Regional training... but the new twist is the faux silk covering on the butterfly... If you would like to learn this please book a workshop with me or come along to a class that demonstrates anything FAUX..

Faux Silk Big Shot Butterfly Card
Remember Sale-A-Bration is on at the moment and it's the BEST time to recieve many EXCLUSIVE BONUS products to add to your crafting collection.... Valentines Workshop 2011 - Love love love

All we need is LOVE!!!! As the famous Betles song states.....
With that theme in mind I put together this LOVEly Class for my wonderful customers...

Valentines Workshop Card and Scrap PageThis class included a lovely Scrapbook page, a Beautiful card and Yummy sweet treat (chocolate) box card. The main them is obviously the word LOVE... And may I say I LOVE the BIG SHOT Simple Letters Alphabet.. It makes word headdings so much easier... and what I ABSOLUTELY LOVE about this wonderful product is that you can use the negative (offcuts) as well as the positive (letters)... It cuts down the cost and use of your product.. ALSO you can cut out EXACTLY the right amount of letters that your project requires and you are NEVER going to run out of S's, R's, T's, vowels etc etc!!! As you tend to do when you purchase a chipboard alphabet set... By simply cutting a peice of chipboard to a standard size, covering it with your desired colour card stock or DSP and centering it on your desired letter you can get two for the price of one!!! Whoot whoo!!!

Valentines Workshop Love CardThis lovely card was inspired by Liz who was inspired by 2010 Incentive Trip... And it was the whole theme of my Class.... This class demonstrated PERFECTLY how you can take a card and turn it into a scrapbook page or any other project you desire....

Valentines Workshop Love Off cuts Cards
This project... "Chocolate Box Card" uses a 7cm x 29.8cm (A4 length) of card stock... and is very economical to reproduce as you can get 3 box cards out of one A4 piece of card stock...
I purchased the lovely little chocolate bars from ALDI. I stacked them up, then I measured them to make sure that when I put them in the card they did not easily fall out. I scored the card stock on one end and stuck it down to it's self with Sticky Strip.... As you can see the letters are the "negative" of the letters I cut out for the card.. Thus the duel usage out of the one piece of chipboard.

The tag embelishment was made by stamping two images on top of each other. The Stamp set used is the lovely "Bliss" Sale-A-Bration set.... The butterfly is behind the "BLISS" word.. and on the scallop I have stamped the BEAUTIFUL flourish before I punched it out.

Valentines Workshop Bliss Medallion EmbellishmentIt was truly a LOVEly class...

Birthday Cards Personalised

I was asked to make some personalised birthday cards for a friend this year.. She discovered this book called 'Why shouldn't I call my son Clint?' by David Hocking.... Fiona has been wanting to have these made for some time now she had the design in her head and she really wanted to incorporate the name quotes from the book... SO we put our heads together and came up with this idea.... It is a very simple formula... and way easy to mass-produce... Simply print out your name and the quote you want on 1/4 of an A4 page.. then run it through the Big Shot with an Embossing folder if you like and or stamp it, then cut out with the Top Note Die cut... tie a ribbon around the card and adhere it with dimenionals... Simple, Elegant and PERSONALISED!!!

Eye Patch - Fashion Statement #2

Heading to the Theater I needed something a little blingy!!! So this is the eye patch I made out of Sculpey and Diamonties... PERRRRRTY!!!
I'm going to have a WICKED time... heheheh

Fashion Eye Patch BlingyUnfortunately it takes a little longer to make things with just one eye... and having only one eye makes you quite tired!!! So I did not get to make the GREEN eye patch (for Wicked) that I wanted to ... However I am sure my design that I have been dreaming of over the past few days will come to fruition soon!!!! Stay tuned...

Eye Patch - Fashion Statement

On Monday this week I was feeling a little dizzy...I thought this was due to not taking my medication on Sunday night because I ran out of my prescription medication... So I made an appointment to get a new script on Monday afternoon.... When I got home I decided to have a lay down... It came time to pick up the children from school and I felt really dizzy and was kind of seeing everything with a bit of a 3D shadow... By 6pm that night I was seeing everything in definite double... So I called the after hours Dr... And she told me to go straight to the Hospital... I was a little naughty here and though, "well.. It can't be that bad cause I have no other symptoms with it".. So I just want to go to bed.... Plus if I went to the hospital at night time no one would be able to see me with an eye problem til the next day anyway... (This I know because of all the experience my Hubbie and I have had with Hospitals!!! )

So anyway... long story short after 2 days at the hospital and many many test later it seems I have "sixth nerve Palsy"..... Which means that the nerve that is responaable for the horazontal movement of my eye is pressured some how in my head and I have limited movement of my eye... It turns inward towards my nose and I am seeing DDDDOOOUUUUBBBBLLLLEEE!!! Fun stuff... So now that they gave me a semi diagnosis (still more testing to go.. and a Nuro Sergen consult)... I know that I am going to be wearing an eye patch for some time... (My friend Google suggests from 6 to 12 months...) I decided that I needed to turn my craft skills on for making a FASHION Statement eye patch or two!!!

Here's what I came up with using the Big Shot Circle Die cut today... It was a hit at church.... heheh
Eye Patch Fashion - Bright and ColourfulI am dreaming up more designs every night.. I believe I may have a large wardrobe of fashionable eye patches soon!!! Why not make an annoying situation fun I say!!! I may even find others out there who would love to make a fashion statement too with their one-eyed-ness!!! Hope this inspires you and gives you some more great project ideas you can use your BIG Shot for.. Happy Crafting!!!

Australia Flood Appeal

As I, along with almost everyone across Australia and possibly the world have been watching the devastation of our wonderful country by floods.... I have been lost for words.... The power of Mother Nature is infinite indeed... One moment Australia is in drought, suffering with bush fires.. and the next the heavens are overflowing... It seemed to me that all the prayers for rain during the time of drought were answered in a few short weeks.... The destruction of the flood was nothing short of catastrophic!!! Homes have been flattened ... business destroyed... Precious lives have been shortened... It has been utterly heart breaking and totally gut wrenching....

I have been blessed & fortunate enough to have remained untouched. It was not due to anything other than dumb luck... We managed to purchase a house years ago that was on high ground.... At times I have felt a little guilty as I watch this event unfold... I was sitting in my little home, safe and sound... While just 10 munites down the road houses were totally submerged in water.

Over the past couple of weeks I have taken time to ponder these events that took place before my eyes thanks to modern technology; internet and Television. And as I have watched I have been deeply touched, moved and sometimes overwhelmed by many emotions.... I have cried as I have seen someones loved one swept away in the torrent of water.... I have been shocked by a single sole clinging for dear life to a pole while a wild river of water (that was not there minutes ago) thrashes against his body trying to rip him into its deadly path.... I have read articles and heard news reports of bravery, heroism and sacrifice.... I have shed tears for these acts also. I have watched in awe as I have seen strangers courage, love, understanding, charity and an outpouring of human kindness!!! To see people in lines longer than one kilometer of volunteers armed with essential clean up equipment... Thousands of people eagerly willing to lend a helping hand to rebuild lives.... It has touched me deeply and reinvigorated my belief in human kindness.... To see so many people reaching inward into their very essence finding their innate being and using it to touch, help and bless another.... Weather you are religious or not we all know that there is something that makes us who we are.. I believe it is our Soul... How much better is the world when we are all more in tune with our soul. If we could always see another's need and instinctively help to lift their burden??? It is my wish and my prayer that we may strive for this always!!!

Although I am unable to help with the clean up of the silt and filth that was left in the wake of the flooding, due to my husbands low immune system... I have tried to invent ways to help. I want to be of support and to share what I have.... So I have baked many yummy items and sent them with friends who are able to go to the affected areas to give out to the thousands of wonderful volunteers.. I have offered my services to help restore loved photos.... and I am always on the look out for other things that I may be able to do... I am pleased that Stampin' Up has these same desires. And I wanted to let you know that they announced their support for the courageous flood volunteers with this statement....

"As flood waters continue to inundate Australia in what has been described as the worst flooding in 37 years, we express our deepest sympathies to those who have lost loved ones and homes and to those whose lives have been changed forever. We, like so many of you, feel a compelling need to lend support to all those who have been affected. Stampin' Up! demonstrators have a long history of making a difference in the lives of others--especially when disaster strikes and the need is greatest. Nearly two years ago, we watched another tragedy unfold in Australia. Our hearts were touched as demonstrators, customers and friends joined together in support of the Bushfire Appeal. We've done it before and we can certainly do it again! Please join with us by supporting the Australia Flood Appeal--a cause in which Stampin' Up! will donate $2 AUD of the retail value of sales from any stamp set (with a retail value of $30 or more) sold in Australia and New Zealand from 15 January through 15 February to the State Emergency Services in Queensland.”

Again another way we can all be involved and show our support.... every little bit counts...

I'd like to say Thank you to Stampin' UP!!!!

May we all be blessed to our very core!!!

Christmas Cards 2010

Our family received some lovely handmade cards this year from many friends.... It's always lovely receiving a letter in the mail and then opening it up to find a GORGEOUS card!!!

Christmas Cards - Scraps, Baubles and JoyAnd at our PaperANGELS Christmas get together some of our lovely ladies had time to make little gifts.... These two beautiful little packages were made with the Big Shot and some die cuts... The Scallop Envelope Die was used for one (made by Liz) and the other was the Bigz L Die.... (made by Bec)... You girls are AMAZING!!!! I had plans to make lovely little gifts for everyone... Unfortunately they went to the wayside as I was involved in some really big Performances and LOADS of rehearsals before Christmas.. Which just seemed to swallow up all my time!!! I really do love you all and appreciate all you do... I hope you will forgive me this year... I promise to be more organised next year!!!

Mini Milk Carton and Bag Box
My handmade Christmas Cards 2010And these are some of the other cards we received as a family this year... So beautiful.... I love all things handmade. I feel it really shows that you have thought about the person and have put a little bit of yourself in each creation... Making it more special... Now if you do not "do craft" support someone who does!!... And believe me when I say that a handcrafted gift or card is always much more appreciated!!!

Christmas Classes

If you were lucky enough to have booked a Workshop in December 2010 then you would have made this LOVELY card.

3 Tree Christmas CardOr if you came to KENG Relaxation day you may have made this BEAUTIFUL Christmas Tree Decoration.... This was made using Stampin' Up's Blossom Party Die Cut...

Big Shot Felt Flower DecorationHow to create one of your own...
You can cut out four layers of felt at once no problem... Which makes this project quite easy to replicate...

You will need eight red flowers and two green flowers. (Roughly 2 and 1/4 pieces of craft felt)
Some wide ribbon and some thin ribbon, some pearls and hot glue....

First you take each one of the red flowers and fold them in quarters. Then you stitch down the layers so that they stay together... once you have done this to all four of them you can then attach four of the quartered flowers to one of the green ones. This creates one half of the decoration... Repeat above to create other half...

Fold over your wide ribbon and thread thin ribbon through a pearl then tie in a bow...

Hot Glue ends of wide ribbon to the back of the green flower... then glue other flower to this to create the ball shape...

Hot Glue a small pearl in between each quartered flower to add extra dimension and interest...

(you can glue in dimonties instead if you like a bit of bling;)

Enjoy...... Love Ursula

Birthday 2011

One of the things I love about being creative and having a lot of creative friends and customers is that I am blessed to receive handmade cards for special events.... I love other peoples ideas.. They really do inspire me!!! These are just a few.. I am sure I will find more as I tidy up the studio from the Christmas onslaught!!!

My handmade B-Day Cards 2011I was particularly taken by a couple of these ideas..
One was this card made by Jenny... with the Top Note Die cut... How clever is this one??? You fold the concertina card first and then put all layers through the Big Shot with the Top Note Die to cut and Whalah... you have a fancy folding card... Then you decorate as desired....

Bear Punch Art Birthday Card

I loved this one too from Bec.. How cute is the Punch Art Teddy??!! Bec has distressed each punch art shape and broken up the fibers so that she could pull apart the layers of the card stock to make the Teddy look like he is made of suede... He is soooooooooo Cute!!! Don't-cha just want to snuggle with him???

Thank you all for remembering my Birthday in 2010.... And making me feel special...
Bless you!!!
Love Ursula

Harry Potter Sweets... With Stampin UP!

This week we had a girly day out to GOLD class movies... just to spoil ourselves before the onslaught of the madness of kids on School holidays and Christmas.. I got this FANTASTIC idea for a party bag from some of my friends on Facebook.. They have done Twilight and Harry Potter treat bags.. and man they have been really Awesome.. some people are just soooooo creative!!! .... so I wanted to try doing some myself.. and WOW Stampin Up does make them look really professional!!! How much FUN!!!!

Harry Potter Sweets... With Stampin UP!I Googled Harry Potter Candy images and came up with some of the candy that gets a mention in the books and the movies... Above I have the Honeydukes Chocolate Frogs... and wouldn't you know it Elegant Eggplant went BRILLIANTLY with the label.... Which we had to do a little remaking cause the best image we could find was a little blurry... So saffron was close to the Goldy colour so I used a little strip on the side of the box and punched it with the Scallop Trim Border Punch.. How AWESOMELY did it go with the look of the label??? It really finished off the box quite well!!! We had 5 different flavored Fredo Frogs in the box... Yum Yum!!!

Harry Potter SJelly Slugs - With Stampin UP!The Jelly Slugs label went PERFECTLY with Pacific Point card stock.. And I used my Big Shot to punch out a bag topper..... Of course I could not find anything that looked like a slug sooooo I put a few snakes in the bag.... Close enough....

Harry Potter Bertie Botts Beans - With Stampin UP!
Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans..... This label went perfectly with Elegant Eggplant again....
I put some mini Jelly Beans in this bag... and man Were they SWEET!!!!

Harry Potter Movie Treat Bag... With Stampin UP!
I put all out treats in a lovely bag and presented them to the girls just before going into the movies... It was a hoot.. and made it all the more special!!! I also printed out a label for some Butter Beer... in the photo it looks a little bad cause the condensation got to it but when I dried it off and put it in the fridge overnight it dried right out and the crinkled label looked quite authentic... I really wanted to have a bottle of Ginger Beer for this one but the shop was out of them.. so I went for good old lemon lime and bitters....

I printed all the labels on sticky photo paper to make it REALLY easy to stick on each item...

Fantastic Memories..... Thanks girls for sharing it with me!!!

11/7/15
Here are the labels and Pattern for the Frog box... If you would like to make them yourselves...
This has been a very popular request over the years.. hope these images help;)... If I knew how to attach a PDF I would attach the original docs... one day I may learn... xxx ENJOY!!!

Dress up Christmas Class

If you did not come to the class you will have missed out on these FABULOUS projects..
We made 4 Cards, one 12x12 Scrapbook page and a Christmas decoration...

Dress up Christmas Class CardsHow BEAUTIFUL is the Flocked DSP? I love the simplicity of the little card in the bottom left corner.... One stamped image, a little DSP, a knot of ribbon and a greeting on top.. This one you could mass produce quite easily!!! And it would be very cost effective!!!

Dress up Christmas Class Scrapping PageI'm yet to find some suitable Christmas type photos to put on this Scrap page... and how easy was the Joy embellishment? Cut out with the big shot oval die...

Dress up Christmas Class Tree DecorationAnd in the decoration is the Joy embellishment again only this time we embossed it with clear embossing and the little bird was coated with crystal effects to give it the shiny dimensional look... Just lovely!!!

We had a lovely time and enjoyed learning a few new techniques... Thanks to a fantastic class designed by Liz....

Stamping on a Frame

A few weekends ago a girlfriend came over to have a crafty day... And she bought one of her projects that she wanted to complete for a personalised wedding gift.

When I saw the invite that she wanted to include in the frame I suggested that she stamp leaf images around the outside of the frame.. and WOW it turned out fantastic!!!

Stampin on a frame with PaintWe spray painted the silver base colour and used acrylic paints applied to the stamp with a Dauber.. and stamped randomly around the frame.... I do believe that it turned out just lovely.. And very personalised!!!

Voting Ribbons

Recently my Son was running for School Captain... and he had to have a campaign and some badges and flags or things to hand out to the kids at school to remind them to vote for him.. we had fun making at least 150 of these.. We used a whole heap of Scrap card stock and left over ribbons... It was amazingly quite Quick... I love Stampin Up punches!!!!

He had a blast making them and LOVED handing them out to the kids at school!!!

Unfortunately he was not awarded School Captain or vice captain. I reminded him that just because he does not have the title there is no reason that he can not be a big support to the ones that were elected...

Christmas Stamp N Stack

I love a good Stamp 'n' stack class because it is quite easy for me to prepare the cards as the formula is very similar for each card... Its just the layout and the stamping that changes it up..

Take a close look at these Night of navy based cards.. they all have the same size rectangular piece on them and they all have strips of DSP and or card stock in the formula... to help create individuality in each of your cards you can layer the pieces different ways... Then to further their individuality and appeal you can use border punches, distressing techniques and tearing to change it up.

Blue Christmas Stamp N StackAs you can see all these Sahara Sand based Card stock cards all have the DSP as the background layer with Square accents and embellishments with a strip of card stock as their basic lay out...

It can be that easy to make cards that are totally different but save time and energy while you mass produce them... Sometimes the cutting of the materials is what takes most of the time... When you get into the swing of things it can go quite fast. After a little while spent designing these cards I was able to prepare and cut this class for 8 ladies in about 1 & 1/2 hours... Now if I had a guilotene that cut more than one peice of card stock at once I could do it in a matter of minutes!!! Oh the bliss!!!! One day ... yes one day I will own or gain access to one of these fantastic machines!!!!

Christmas Stamp N Stack 2nd TimeOn the strip on the bottom right Reindeer card I wanted some background stamping and because I try to keep a Stamp 'n' Stack simple and only use one or 2 stamp sets I thought the Reindeer antlers would be a great background stamp for a small strip... Just stamp it over and over again and whalah you have a lovely little background stamp...

I hope this gives you some ideas for your own Christmas Cards...

PS... I love the Elegant Soirée DSP.. just in case you couldn't tell.... heheheh

Circles Die Cut - Stencil

Did you know that you could use the left overs of your die cut to created a stencil????
Me either until we were shown this really great idea at Brisbane Regional Training....
I love that Stampin' UP! attracts and is so full of talented people with FANTASTIC ideas!!! As long as we have stamps, ink pads and paper or card stock I believe the creativity will never run dry!!!!

At our September PaperANGELS Meeting this was our 2nd project for the night.. We replicated the top one from Regionals... Using the negative as a template you can sponge your desired ink colours on to your card stock... (I suggest that you use some dotto to stop your stencil from slipping around...) then while you still have the stencil over you stamp your images in black StayzOn... What an AWESOME effect this creates.. very stylish...
Circles Die Cut - Stencil CardsAt one of our Bayside craft days we decided to change the colours up a bit and we created the bottom one with more subtle colours....

Paper Lantern Tea light Cover

At our September PaperANGELS meeting we made a lovely Paper lantern Tea light cover...Lg Paper Lantern Tea light Cover We used the Top Note Die cut to create the windows.... and the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder on some thick card stock velum to created the detail in the windows.. It was a really great idea... and rather inexpensive to create for a themed party or something... Liz gave us the basics and then we were challenged to do something more with it...

While I was at Liz's helping prepare for the meeting I wanted to make a smaller one so this is what I came up with...
Small Red Paper Lantern Tea light CoverIt's a sweet little red white and black one.. with a bit of Crumb cake too... hehehe
I stamped with opaque versa mark on the windows and made the window shapes with the curly label punch.. Punching out just over one and a half of the label punches. It is a beautiful idea and could really light up your table decorations for a special occasion...

Now of course you would not put an open flame in them..Being that they are made from card stock and all.... You would use a battery operated tea light... I believe you can pick them up at most Big W stores....

Happy creating!!!

Art Therapy - Creativity - AMAZING!!

Art Therapy TreeI met a really interesting lady on the weekend. I was attending a Beta Sigma Phi convention where I had a display for Stampin' UP! at.... I struck up a conversation with one of the BSP ladies and she told me a little about herself and her profession... although she is retired now. Jan is an Art Therapist and Psycologist... this really intrigued me..What a cool profession.... She told me of an interesting "gimmick" (as she called it) that she would get people to do to discover some things about them. I so wanted to have a go at this.. it really excited me!!!! So Jan gave me the instructions of what I was to do.... And left me too it while she attended the next guest speakers presentation for the day... I was to get a piece of paper and on one side draw a single tree, then on the other side draw 2 or more trees.

Now whilst drawing the trees I was not thinking of anything other than drawing them... and how I could make them different... or how I could fill the page out better.. What more could I add to the page to make it look more like a complete picture? etc...

When Jan came back she looked at the pictures... Taking the single tree first... She said I payed a lot of attention to detail. That I was nurturing because of the grass around the base of the tree. That the trunk of the tree was solid so I am a solid person which is good... Then she held her fingers up the way my mother would do if she were drawing something to get the proportions right.... and what she said next just BLEW me away!!!! She said "now when you were about 13 or 14 something happened in your life that made a very big impact... It has really affected your life" I started to tear up!!! My mother was diagonosed with a Brain Tumor when I was 14... And yes indeed it has impacted my life in oh so many ways!!! For good and for bad... She also looked a little flower that I had drawn off to the right of the tree. "now this flower... It has 4 ... 5 petals ... 4 are well formed and one is kind of scribbled out.... I have a feeling that this flower relates to your own family or to a family that is very close to you" Again you could have blown me over with a little puff of wind.... There is 4 people in our family and I had always thought that we would have another child... but as my husband had Chemotherapy and as time progresses I am sure this child will not come into our family.... there were many more things she told me about my picture and more yet again when she went to the picture of the 2 or more trees that I drew... I could not believe how spot on she was... it was kind of eerie at first... then a little exciting... then totally amazing... How one could get some much from a simple drawing of a tree... Jan told me that if you were to draw the same picture every other day it would say different things about you every time....

Jan also told me that my "art was an escape from reality".... And it is.. It has been my saving grace especially throughout the last 5 years with my Husbands illness... And that my "art is a kind of obsession"... Do you think a 6x9 Art studio indicates that??? hehehe.... Plus the fact that I love to learn new things and try out all kinds of mediums, projects, costumes, etc etc... and have a large collection of materials to do all of these different projects with???

What a blessing it is to have art and craft in our lives... In its various forms!!! What a blessing it is to have hands, minds and imagination that God created; that can then form, mold and create!!!! How amazing is it to see others talents and creativity? I am always in awe of others creations... And no matter how Amazing my projects are to others I am always so much more impressed with others creativity... How Individual people are. How a little of their own personality comes out in each creation. How they develop skill, talent and passion. We all should be in awe of our own abilities and know that it is ok to stand back every now and then and appreciate our work... for when God created the Earth he stod back and "saw that it was good". We are created in his image.. We are a large part of Gods creation. Each one of us are an individual thread in this tapestry of life. What a blessing it is to take hold and make it a more beautiful world... one creation at a time...

What an amazing experience this was for me... To spend a few moments drawing a picture or two and to have Jan use her talents and skills to extract such personal things out of it. A simple gift to her that she has obviously developed over many years... But what an amazing tool art is...

I encourage everyone to be CREATIVE.... release all the inner emotions and feelings... Release the creative genius that is waiting to explore.... Experience Art in any form you can get your hands on!!! Develop skills and talents.. Grow and learn... It is DIVINE... We are Divine creations in the hands of the Lord....
