Angel Baby Boxes


In 2008 one of the Paper Angel Team members wrote about a very personal tragedy that touched so many of our hearts... Around the time that the tragedy occurred we were looking for a cause that we could be passionate about... That we could... as "ANGELS" take a hold of and feel that we were able to make a real difference in others lives... To give back to the community and share what we love though Stampin' Up!.....

Here is an excerpt of a letter that was written to Stampin' Ups! Shelly Gardner in aid of nominating PA Team Leader for The Heart of Stampin' Up! Award... And the very reason why many felt Angel Baby Boxes would be so important... 

'When a baby dies, a world is turned upside down. Before joining Stampin' Up!, my world had done exactly so. We had recently lost twin boys at birth and with that I had lost direction in life. But sitting at a fun workshop enjoying creativity that Liz had come to share with my friend and her guests, I felt happy. Liz beamed with love for what she was sharing with us, and her enthusiasm gave me the desire to do the same.
It was then that I became a member of Stampin' Up! [and the] Paper Angels.'
Leonie recounts, 'With a new career in the making, a new house [within] reach, and the wonderful news of a new baby on the way, I was again on that miraculous journey of life!
'Until the unexpected, when I found myself back in a world turned upside down with the early delivery and loss of our third baby boy.'
'When Liz called suggesting the Paper Angels would like to hold a fundraising event for the hospital where we had lost our babies in their honour, my heart was touched as it still is.'
Leonie wished her babies' footprints had been preserved and presented in a nicer way.
So that's where the team decided to start.
'The Paper Angels could provide The Mater Mother's Bereavement Support Program with the materials they would need to ensure footprints of those babies who don't make it home be made onto special footprint cards along with name plaques, to allow families to honour and cherish their babies, and share the spirits of their lives,' shares Leonie.

The many branches of the Paper Angels team have been raising funds over the last 10 years in aid of these ANGEL BABY boxes... We may have started in the Marter Mothers Hospital in Brisbane but we are now proudly supplying several hospitals all over Queensland... and our team has inspired other Stampin Up teams to do the same in their States in Australia...

What are the "Angel Baby Boxes" you may ask... ?? 

They are two boxes that contain equipment and specially designed cards that the nursing staff will be able to create a beautiful and personal keep sake for the families of the Angel Babies...

The first box contains all that is needed to create name cards for both the angel babies as well as for babies in the special and intensive care areas. "Angel" team members and other volunteer helpers have made and assembled the decorative name cards and to finish them off  all the nursing staff need to do is use the alphabet stamps to stamp the babies name in Pigment ink and emboss it (in gold) onto the white strip which is then be adhered to the card. 

The second box contains all the materials the nursing staff need to create footprint cards for the angel babies. For parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles who are unable to take their precious babies home. We have found that the footprints on the cards are very special as they are the actual imprint of a beautiful angel baby that was not for this world. These beautiful remembrance cards are and have been an integral part of the grieving and healing process for all involved - Including the nursing staff as they also grieve the loss of these precious little ones... And because of the lower cost in providing and sustaining the "stock" of them to each hospital...  the Nursing staff can make as many as wanted for each of the family members as we are able to provide sufficient for their needs.

As you can see and understand a little from this blog post.. It is EASY to be passionate about this cause... these name cards and footprint cards are only something small... yet they can mean the world to those who have lost, and are hurting... 

It truly is an honor to be providing this service and support for the families and hospitals. And I am grateful for being part of a wonderful Angel team that saw a need and filled it... We are indeed blessed... Also I personally feel EXTREMELY blessed to be Members of a FANTASTIC company Stampin' Up!s  whos Statement of the Heart is:

Paper Angels Christmas Card Event 2012

Can you believe I did not post this???? I'm not sure how it got lost in amongst my posts...
Although it's been a few months since... Where has time gone???? I CAN still remember that we had a lovely time at the recent Paper Angels Mater Mother Bereavement fundraising events... As always...

We held six events in total and raised a total of around $4000 to go towards for filling our comment to the Angel Baby boxes and other Paper craft projects that we donate to local Brisbane Hospitals. Each year we are able to expand our reach with thanks to Stampin' Up for a generous donation boxes of FANTASTIC products to raffle off.... Also with thanks to ALL our WONDERFUL customers who love to come along, create, laugh and play with us and support the raffles!!!

As the year is going FAST!!! I expect it will not bee too long until we see you all at this years Paper Angels Christmas Card Event....

Christmas Card Workshop - PaperANGELS fundraiser 2011

Ever year the Paper Angels hold this Jam packed Fun Filled event to help support our wonderful Marter Mothers Bereavement Group.. What a  lovely time we all had making these FANTASTIC 6 projects...

This year we have changed the format of the raffles... We now have a whole heap of product laid out on the prize table and as you number is drawn you come up and chose which prize you would like... it really made winning for everyone more possible... and some people still had quite an armful of prizes to go home with as their numbers were drawn out several times...

The 6 events this year were all great success and we raised a substantial amount of money for the cause...

Thank you to all who continue to support these events. They really do make a HUGE difference!!!

Annual Charity Christmas Card Workshop 2011

This year we continue to raise money for paper craft activity boxes for children who are hospitalised for long term treatment as well as our lovely footprint and name cards for the Maternal Bereavement program. We look forward to sharing our demonstrator projects & display boards with you. You are invited to enter your Stampin’ Up! Christmas Cards into the Card competition ($1 per entry please use predominantly Stampin’ UP! products). We will also be collecting Bereavement Thank You Cards and Christmas Cards for Troops, all donations greatly appreciated. And last but not least our Stampin’ UP! prize bundles will be raffled at each event and as always they will be WONDERFULLY fabulous.

I have had a few requests to run classes on other times/days. If you like the sound of the classes that I am running and let me know you would like to come I can advertise for another day/date. Or gather 3 or more friends together and have your very own private class.

Friday 17th - STAMPIN’ UP! Convention INSPIRED Projects – DELUXE Cards… 7pm – 9.30pm Come along and make a couple of wonderful deluxe cards that has been inspired from recent Melbourne SU CONVENTION 2011.. Cost $15

Friday 24th… 9.30 am – 2pm.. Crop day @ Angel Ave… Come along and bring your unfinished projects or things you are working on. Have use of my tools and inks….(BYO basic tool kit/glue etc… something to contribute to lunch or own packed lunch… and some small change for accessories you may like to add to your projects from my collection of supplies) Cost $5

Saturday 30th… 10am… Ink Spired @ Angel Ave… Come along and learn how to use your re-inkers and Ink pads in different ways… $15
Community Craft Groups…. This year I have been asked to run a weekly card making group at Kingston East Neighbourhood Group… It is called the KENG Card group – This class is run every Thursday from 9.30am to 11.30am during the School term.. It is organised by the Kingston East Neighbourhood Group Inc. We make one card and have a hot cuppa & a lovely chat and catch up with a wonderful group of ladies… Who are encouraged to bring Lots of show ‘n’ tell.  Bookings are essential please phone KENG on 3808 1684. COST $2

PAPER ANGELS Events and Training Meetings…
BAYSIDE CRAFT GROUP….  Begins for 2011 on Tuesday - Jan 25th….
(Continues EVERY Tuesday in school term) FREE (contributions for morning tea are always welcome)
Join a fun group of ladies who meet each week during school term, to socialize and craft in between talking! Bring along your own project to work on or help someone with their endeavours. The first Tuesday of each month, you will have the opportunity to help us restock our Mater Angel Footprint Cards for the hospitals. The second Tuesday of the month will be Punch Art themed, whilst the third will be a 'sharing' day where people may choose to demonstrate their favourite tool or technique to the group. The fourth week will double as the venue for the 'Big Shot Club' from 10-12am. Everyone is most welcome to bring whatever craft they like and the weekly 'suggestions' are just designed to help those who might like some direction.

SOUTHSIDE DEMONSTRATORS MEETING
Saturday 25th -  2 PM - 5PM - Paper Angels Demonstrators are invited to attend a 'Creativity Based' meeting, where you will produce make & takes that you can use at your own workshops or to simply to spark your own creativity at home. COST $5
JULY
NORTHSIDE Demonstrator Meeting
Wednesday 6th – 7-9pm  $5
Angel Ave Demonstrator Meeting
Thursday 14th –7pm -9pm $5
SOUTHSIDE DEMONSTRATORS MEETING
Wednesday27th -  7 PM - 9PM - Paper Angels Demonstrators are invited to attend a 'Creativity Based' meeting, where you will produce make & takes that you can use at your own workshops or to simply to spark your own creativity at home. COST $5

Bookings are closing very soon for our much anticipated Christmas Card Workshops. Whilst there are still limited places available, we need to close off bookings, so that we can ensure that the materials that we need to order for you arrive in time. I thought I would take the opportunity to remind you of all the fabulous reasons that you will want to come to one of these events.

1.
Number one reason to come to the Christmas Card Workshops
is the wonderful, creative & fun PEOPLE that you will find there.

2.
The PROJECTS have been designed to be elegant, simple & repeatable,
using a great stash of Stampin' Up! papers, dies, tools, ribbon & bling.

3.
If you have been to a Christmas Card Workshop, you will know we always have
great prizes. This year Stampin' Up! have been extremely generous in their support
and we have well over $1000 of product to give away at each event. Pictured below
are the RAFFLE PRIZES for the Coorparoo Event.

The proceeds from these fabulous raffle prizes ensures we continue to support the Mater Mothers Bereavement Footprints Programme.

There is always a great supply of DISPLAY PROJECTS that you are welcome to photograph.

The CARD COMPETITION costs 50 cents per card to enter. We would like to see Christmas Cards created primarily with Stampin' Up! Product. Participants in the Workshop will then
vote and 3 lucky winners will share in $250 in prizes!

6.
Of course, we always have a lovely AFTERNOON TEA to enjoy together.

7.
This year we will have a special box at all our Christmas Workshops. We will be collecting Christmas Card Donations for our Australian Troops serving overseas as part of a
'CARDS FOR TROOPS' program. These cards will ensure soldiers are able to send a card home at Christmas to their loved ones. This project is being coordinated for the Paper Angels by the lovely Anna Wheaton who is in turn helping 2 NSW Stampin Up Demonstrators who initiated this idea. So please, do bring along any cards you did not use from last year and we ask please if you can provide envelopes with the cards.

We will have SPOT PRIZES during the course of the day

Not long now everyone till our BIG annual fundraising event..

As always there will be Raffles, Card Competitions and many BEAUTIFUL projects to make on the day.. With instructions so you can recreate them at home... And be TOTALLY organised for Christmas..... You will have a blast.. It is LOVELY to be able to get out and enjoy other like minded (be it all some what crazy & crafty) people.... It has been such success in the past and I am really looking forward to it again this year...
